Granada Festival of Music and Dance 2026

The Granada Festival of Music and Dance 2026 invites audiences into a world where classical music, ballet, and the cultural spirit of Andalusia merge beneath the summer skies of southern Spain. Held from 11 June to 12 July 2026, the festival transforms Granada into one of Europe’s most atmospheric artistic destinations, where performances unfold in extraordinary venues including the Palace of Charles V within the Alhambra, historic courtyards, gardens, and open-air stages surrounded by the beauty of the Sierra Nevada.

Overview

A Milestone in Opera

The Granada Festival hosts for the first time a complete performance of Giuseppe Verdi's Aida , presented in a concert version based on a new production previously performed in Seville. Premiered in 1871, this four-act opera is one of the great syntheses of Verdi's theater, with a monumental stagecraft that coexists with an intense, intimate drama marked by the conflict between love, power, and duty. The Royal Seville Symphony Orchestra and the Chorus of the Teatro de la Maestranza, under the direction of Daniele Callegari and a cast of leading international artists, tackle a score of vast scope that demands both choral and orchestral power and expressive refinement. Devoid of sets, the concert version underscores the musical architecture and vocal richness of a key work in the operatic repertoire, whose complete performance marks a milestone in the Festival's history.

Venue Info

Palace of Charles V - Granada
Location   C. Real de la Alhambra, s/n, Centro

Located within the majestic Alhambra complex, the Palace of Charles V is one of the most extraordinary performance venues of the Granada International Festival of Music and Dance. Combining Renaissance grandeur with the mystical atmosphere of the Alhambra, the palace creates a breathtaking setting where music, dance, and history come together beneath the Andalusian night sky.

Built in the 16th century for Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, the palace is renowned for its monumental circular courtyard — an architectural masterpiece unique in Spain. During the festival, this elegant open-air space transforms into a spectacular stage for opera, symphonic concerts, ballet, flamenco, and international dance performances.

The acoustics of the courtyard, framed by harmonious stone colonnades, create a remarkable natural resonance that enhances both orchestral richness and vocal clarity. As evening falls and the warm lights illuminate the Renaissance architecture, performances gain an atmosphere of rare beauty and emotional intensity.

Artists from around the world appear here each summer, making the Palace of Charles V one of the symbolic hearts of the Granada Festival. The combination of world-class performances and the historic surroundings of the Alhambra offers audiences a cultural experience unlike any traditional theatre or concert hall.

The setting itself adds dramatic power to every production. Surrounded by centuries of history, with views toward the gardens and ancient walls of the Alhambra, audiences experience music and dance within one of Europe’s most inspiring artistic landscapes.

Elegant, historic, and unforgettable, the Palace of Charles V transforms every festival performance into a magical encounter between art, architecture, and the spirit of Granada.
