Held from 11 June to 12 July 2026, the festival transforms Granada into one of Europe’s most atmospheric artistic destinations, where performances unfold in extraordinary venues including the Palace of Charles V within the Alhambra, historic courtyards, gardens, and open-air stages surrounded by the beauty of the Sierra Nevada.

Programme
Giuseppe Verdi: Nabucco: Sinfonia
Giuseppe Verdi: I vespri siciliani: Le quattro stagioni
Manuel de Falla: The Three-Cornered Hat: Suite no. 2
Maurice Ravel: Boléro
Overview

Youth and Tradition

The Orchestra Giovanile Luigi Cherubini appears for the first time at the Festival under the direction of Riccardo Muti, a key figure in the Italian symphonic and operatic tradition and mentor of the ensemble since its founding in 2004. The program weaves together opera and symphonic music: first, Verdi, with the overture to Nabucco and the dances from I vespri siciliani , a synthesis of theater, rhythmic energy, and mature instrumental writing; then Falla, with one of the suites from El sombrero de tres picos , a key work on the 150th anniversary of his birth; and finally, Ravel, whose Boléro closes the concert with one of the most radical and recognizable experiments in modern orchestration.

Venue Info

Palace of Charles V - Granada
Location   C. Real de la Alhambra, s/n, Centro

Located within the majestic Alhambra complex, the Palace of Charles V is one of the most extraordinary performance venues of the Granada International Festival of Music and Dance. Combining Renaissance grandeur with the mystical atmosphere of the Alhambra, the palace creates a breathtaking setting where music, dance, and history come together beneath the Andalusian night sky.

Built in the 16th century for Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, the palace is renowned for its monumental circular courtyard — an architectural masterpiece unique in Spain. During the festival, this elegant open-air space transforms into a spectacular stage for opera, symphonic concerts, ballet, flamenco, and international dance performances.

The acoustics of the courtyard, framed by harmonious stone colonnades, create a remarkable natural resonance that enhances both orchestral richness and vocal clarity. As evening falls and the warm lights illuminate the Renaissance architecture, performances gain an atmosphere of rare beauty and emotional intensity.

Artists from around the world appear here each summer, making the Palace of Charles V one of the symbolic hearts of the Granada Festival. The combination of world-class performances and the historic surroundings of the Alhambra offers audiences a cultural experience unlike any traditional theatre or concert hall.

The setting itself adds dramatic power to every production. Surrounded by centuries of history, with views toward the gardens and ancient walls of the Alhambra, audiences experience music and dance within one of Europe’s most inspiring artistic landscapes.

Elegant, historic, and unforgettable, the Palace of Charles V transforms every festival performance into a magical encounter between art, architecture, and the spirit of Granada.
