The mediaeval Castell de Peralada is the setting for the Castell de Peralada Festival during the months of July and August.

Overview

To mark the 50th anniversary of the death of Josep Carner, tenor David Alegret and pianist Rubén Fernández Aguirre will celebrate the occasion with a brand-new recital at the Carme Church.

Through the work filled with elegance, lyricism and contention of one of the leading exponents of Catalan Noucentisme, of whom the tenor has become one of his greatest champions, we will be able to hear some of the songs that Eduard Toldrà – on the 125th anniversary of his birth – composed based on Carner’s poems, such as Canticel, Cançó incerta and El gessamí i la rosa. The evening will also feature five versions of the poem Canticel, which gives the recital its title, as well as the world premières of works by composers Albert Guinovart and Alberto García Demestres based on poems by Carner. The audience will also be able to listen to a series of unheard or infrequently heard songs by Miquel Ortega and some songs by Peralada native Joaquim Serra, which will close the evening devoted to the prince of Catalan poets. A balanced and original programme that will transport the spectator to the first third of the twentieth century when Catalan art, literature and music experienced a true golden age.
