Festival Castell de Peralada - Easter edition 2023

The mediaeval Castell de Peralada is the setting for the Castell de Peralada Festival during the months of July and August. Set in the Castle Park gardens, the Auditorium is the ideal venue for concerts on a summer night. The Church and the Cloister, by contrast, hosts recitals, chamber concerts and small-format operas. History and prestige identify the Festival which, both for its artistic events and for the exceptional nature of the setting in which it is staged, place this mediaeval town at the cultural and leisure heart of the summer nights of the Costa Brava.

Programme

Overview

In the festival, Cantoría will debut with Oficio de Tinieblas de Viernes Santo. A spectacle with eight performers wherein the ensemble will delve into their spiritual roots with this liturgical ceremony that combines sacred polyphonies and Gregorian chants. Throughout the concert, the candles will slowly be put out to finish the performance completely in the dark and thus recover the ancient liturgies of this ritual.

This rising vocal quartet specialised in the vocal polyphony of the Iberian Renaissance is known for bringing youth, closeness and a breath of fresh air to their performances. With a notably ascendant career, this vocal ensemble born in the heart of ESMUC was consolidated during the ECOS Sierra Espuña Ancient Music Festival (Murcia) in the summer on 2016. In 2018, they were chosen by EEEmerging, a European cooperation programme for fostering emerging ensembles, where they obtained the Audience Prize and were chosen to continue being a part of the programme to this day. The ensemble started developing a noteworthy national and international career, aligning their trajectory with their participation in international festivals such as those of Anvers, Bruges, Utrecht or the REMA digital festival (Réseau Européen de Musique Ancienne) of Early Music Day 2021, where they were invited to participate thanks to the recent discovery of the unpublished Tontana Manuscript, recovered by the ensemble.
