Nicole Car is one of Australia's most outstanding young artists. She made a particularly noteworthy debut at the Opera Australia in Sydney in 2011 singing the role of Micaela (Carmen). She then went on to perform a number of other roles with the Australian Company, including Pamina in a new production of The Magic Flute, Valencienne in The Merry Widow, Leila in The Pearl Fishers, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Mimi in La Bohème, Marguerite in Faust, the Countess in The Marriage of Figaro, and Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte. In 2015, she made her debut appearance at London’s Royal Opera House Covent Garden performing the roles of Tatiana in Eugene Onegin and Micaela. She also made her American debut in Dallas in The Marriage of Figaro.
Soon thereafter she sang at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin in Eugene Onegin and at Dresden’s Sächsische Staatsoper in Così fan tutteand then performed the role of Adalgisa in Norma at the Victorian Opera in Melbourne. In 2016, she received the Helpmann Award for Best Female Performer in Opera for her performance in the title role of Luisa Miller at Opera Australia. She has won numerous voice competitions including the Australian Singing Competition Opera Award and she earned First Prize at the 2013 Neue Stimmen Competition in Germany. She also performs in concert with a repertoire that includes Brahm’s German Requiem, Mahler’s Das Klagende Lied, Mozart’s Requiem, and Bach’s St. John Passion. Nicole Car has made numerous recordings in Australia, including German Requiem for the MSO with the bass-baritone Teddy Tahu Rhodes (ABC Classics) and the role of Micaela in Carmen for the Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour (CD/DVD – Opera Australia). Last season, she made her Paris Opera debut performing the role of Tatiana. She then went on to sing the title role in Thaïs in Sydney and Mimi at London’s Royal Opera House Covent Garden.
