Overview

For Elīna Garanča, this concert evening is something very special year after year: the interplay between the spiritual location, the enthusiastic audience and the atmospheric music makes the evening an unforgettable experience for artists and audience alike.

The regular audience of "Klassik unter Sternen" has long appreciated the special charm and flair of the event: the almost mystical surroundings of Göttweig Abbey, high above the Danube, form the backdrop for the beautifully illuminated open-air stage. In addition, a program with a mix of classical opera arias and well-known international songs, which has much to offer both experienced opera fans, as well as beginners.

For many years, Elīna Garanča and Karel Mark Chichon have performed together with young, up-and-coming opera talents at their open-air concerts. Not infrequently, these performances were followed by the beginning of an international career.

In the year 2000, The Monastery of Göttweig was listed as part of the Unesco World Heritage together with the Landcscape of the Wachau, the Monastery of Melk and the Medieval City of Krems.

It is with these profound words that Saint Benedikt introduces chapter 53 of his „Rules of Order“, which are entirely devoted to the subject of hospitality. Quite in keeping with the intention of the Founder of the Benedectine Order, the Benedectine Monastery of Göttweig invites thousands of music lovers every year to the open air „Classic under Stars“ . Here against the historical backdrop of the magnificent Monastery an encounter of a very special sort takes place.
