About

Born in Saint Petersburg, Elena Zaytseva studied at the Academy of Theater Arts. She began her film career, notably for Lenfilm Studios. At the same time, she works on La Chauve-souris productions in Novosibirsk and Red Giselle at the Boris Eifman Theater in Moscow. From 1995 to 2001, she worked at the costume studio of the Mariinsky Theater. She designs costumes for the Ghost Ship and the historical version of Sergei Vikharev's Sleeping Beauty. She also works for the Fontanka Theater.

In 2003, she joined the Moscow Bolshoi Theater Company as Head of the Costume Department. She created costumes for Lady Macbeth by Mzensk (2004), Wozzeck (2009), Rousslan and Ludmila (with Dmitri Tcherniakov, 2012), The Tsar's Fiancee (2014, directed by Julia Pevzner) and several ballets (Le Corsaire , Paquita, Esmeralda, Petrushka, Jewels, Zakharova Supergame). She works regularly with Dmitry Tcherniakov (Khovantchina at the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, The Player at the Staatsoper Berlin and Scala Milan, Macbeth Novosibirsk and Paris, Don Giovanni at the Festival of Aix-en-Provence and the Teatro Real Madrid , Simon Boccanegra at the English National Opera, The Legend of the Invisible City of Kaiser at the Amsterdam Opera House, The Trouvere at the Brussels Mint, Jenůfa at the Zurich Opera House, The Tsar's Fiancee at La Scala in Milan and the Staatsoper Berlin, La Traviata at the Scala in Milan, Prince Igor at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Dialogues of the Carmelites and Lulu at the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, Parsifal and Tristan and Isolde at the Staatsoper Berlin, Lady Macbeth of Mzensk at the English National Opera and the Opera de Lyon, Blue Beard Castle and Senza Sangue by Peter Eötvös at the Staatsoper Hamburg, Carmen at the Aix-en-Provence Festival). Between 2011 and 2016, she also created the costumes of several ballets for the Yekaterinburg Theater (La Bayadère, Conservatory, Cantus Arcticus, Paquita, Salieri Variations, Nutcracker, Curtain, The Damsel Guarded), as well as for Astrakhan Opera (Swan Lake) and the Vilnius Opera House (Don Quixote).
