About
In the 74 years of its existence, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra has established itself as one of the world's leading chamber orchestras.
The intensive collaboration over the decades with the conductors Carlo Zecchi (chief conductor 1966-76), Philippe Entremont (chief conductor 1976-91), later with Yehudi Menuhin, Sándor Végh, Heinrich Schiff (chief conductor 2005-08) and Stefan Vladar (chief conductor 2008 -18) has decisively shaped the orchestra. In 1946 Benjamin Britten performed the Vienna Chamber Orchestra in the performance of his Serenade Op. 31 conducts. In 1952, at the age of 9, Daniel Barenboim made his debut with the orchestra, in 1964 Alfred Brendel performed with the orchestra. Joji Hattori has been first guest conductor since 2018. His collaboration with the orchestra began in 2004.
In Vienna, in addition to the self-organized cycles (matinees and prime time), the orchestra performs in numerous concerts, including at the Wiener Musikverein and in the Konzerthaus. Current tours lead the orchestra to Spain, Italy, Greece, Ireland, Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, Portugal, Colombia, China and Russia.
