Rabenhof veteran Gerald Votava, together with the exceptional musicians Maria Petrova and Walther Soyka, will present as yet unknown poetry by the Viennese cult author. A must-see!
Some stories end well, few others even have a wonderful one. One of the latter is the story of the artistic friendship that the Austrian author of the century Christine Nöstlinger made in the last years of her life with the Viennese actor, songwriter, and musician Gerald Votava.
In 2012 Votava was part of the celebrated Nöstlinger production IBA DE GAUNZ OAMEN LEIT in the Rabenhof Theater.
In “Maikäfer, fly!”, The 2016 film adaptation of Nöstlinger's memories of the war, he then played the poet's father with tremendous intimacy. You got to know each other, you talked, you got together well, as they say in Vienna. At one point Christine Nöstlinger presented Votava with two dozen late dialect poems, both clairvoyant and pessimistic, as warm-hearted as deeply sad poetry. Votava could make something out of it, said the poet.
After three years of intensive, almost meditative work on the lyrics, we now have “Aschenes Lem!”, A great, modern, distant-emotional songster album with lyrics that seem to come from a distant past and yet an almost prophetic one Radiate knowledge of the fate of humanity.
Gerald Votava sings these texts with the relentless concentration of Gil Scott Heron, he is supported by the magical harmonica of the great Walther Soyka.
Big song albums like “Aschenes Lem!” Are like traveling. The listener must decide to come along. For this they pay a price, for that they receive a wage.
