In the beautiful Hercules Hall of the Liechtenstein Garden Palace, which impresses not only with gold and exquisite marble, but above all with a unique fresco by Andrea Pozzo, the Vienna Hofburg Orchestra and its guests celebrate the turning of the year.

The great waltzes and polkas of the Strauss family are complemented by arias, duets and quartets by four international renowned opera singers.

The Program
The program consists of romantic waltzes, thrilling overtures and passionate polkas by the brothers Strauss and Franz von Suppé. Four renowned opera singers delight with arias, duets and quartets by Franz Lehár, Johann Strauss Sohn and Emmerich Kálmán.

Just as Johann Strauss planned, and according to the tradition of all great Viennese orchestras, the musicians have prepared some musical jokes to delight the audience!

The Liechtenstein Garden Palace with its magnificent Hercules Hall and the spacious baroque garden has been available as an event location for weddings, congresses and gala dinners since the beginning of 2012. Also the traditional New Year’s Eve and New Year’s concert by the Vienna Hofburg Orchestra take place here.

The history of the Liechtenstein Garden Palace in Vienna begins in 1658 when Prince Johann Adam Andreas I von Liechtenstein bought a vineyard from the Auersperg family and expanded it through further acquisitions.

Construction of the main building began in 1697 according to plans by Domenico Egidio Rossi and the shell was already finished in 1704.

The prince then hired the best artists in Vienna and Italy for the elaborate interior design.
His call was followed by the sculptor Giovanni Giuliani, the plasterer Santino Bussi, and the painters Marcantonio Franceschini, Johann Michael Rottmayr and Andrea Pozzo.

In 1709 they finished the interior design and created an Italian-antique work of art, a closed city villa in the Roman style, resembling a palazzo.

However, the premises were only used in summer and for representation purposes, as it was practically impossible to heat the large rooms.

The Hercules Hall is the festival hall of the Liechtenstein Palace. The most impressive architectural feature is the magnificent ceiling fresco “Taking Hercules into Olympus”.

Andrea Pozzo, the great master of the Roman Baroque, created this incredibly vital work from 1704 to 1708. It has been completely preserved in its baroque freshness and shows the art of Pozzo at its peak.

Every year the Vienna Hofburg Orchestra plays its traditional New Year’s concert and New Year’s Eve concert in this unique atmosphere.
