Overview

The popular national style, beautiful and poetic Cantonese opera is on the rise again.

In the long river of time, there is a love story. It has gone through thousands of years of wind and frost, and it is still shining. In the hall of Cantonese opera, there is a play. After ten years of polishing, it is more dazzling.

The Cantonese opera "Legend of the White Snake·Love" is the flow of emotions. It is the inheritance of culture. It is also the eternal feelings and yearning in our hearts. From the first impression of beauty to the current deep-rootedness, every look and every movement on the stage has become an exclusive moving mark.

When the familiar melody sounded, love was everywhere, and it was extremely romantic. "Legend of the White Snake·Love" has been around for ten years.

What we have gained is not only the growth of art , but also the deep emotional bond with every audience. Now, we sincerely invite you to join us at the Guangzhou Grand Theater on February 12 for a feast of "love". Love is popular, and ten years are like a song. Where does love come from, and where does the love-crazy go? Our story starts from the classic love legend "Legend of the White Snake", and from Zeng Xiaomin's first Cantonese opera art special. Love is so deep that it does not matter east or west. In 2014, Guangdong Cantonese Opera Theater created a new work based on the traditional theme of "The Legend of White Snake". Taking "love" as the starting point, it refined and sublimated the essence of "love" and the connotation of "love", combined with modern aesthetics to reshape it and created "The Legend of White Snake".

Guangzhou Opera House is a Chinese opera house in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, People's Republic of China. Designed by Zaha Hadid, it opened on the 9th of May in 2010.

In April 2002 an international architectural competition attracted Coop Himmelb(l)au, Rem Koolhaas and Zaha Hadid – each producing detailed designs. In November 2002, Zaha Hadid's "double pebble" was announced the winner and the groundbreaking ceremony was held early in 2005.

The theatre has become the biggest performing centre in southern China and is one of the three biggest theatres in the nation alongside Beijing's National Centre for the Performing Arts and Shanghai's Shanghai Grand Theatre. May 2010 saw American filmmaker Shahar Stroh direct the premiere production of the opera house: Puccini's opera Turandot which had in previous years been a controversial opera in China.

The structure was designed by Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid. It is conceived as two rocks washed away by the Pearl River. Its freestanding concrete auditorium set within an exposed granite and glass-clad steel frame took over five years to build, and was praised upon opening by architectural critic Jonathan Glancey in The Guardian, who called it "at once highly theatrical and insistently subtle."
