Festival

Festival d`Aix-en-Provence 2026

The Festival d’Aix-en-Provence 2026 invites you into a world where opera becomes a living art — intimate, daring, and profoundly human. From July 2 to July 21, 2026, the sunlit city of Aix-en-Provence transforms into one of Europe’s most refined cultural stages, where historic courtyards, modern theatres, and open-air venues resonate with music of exceptional depth and imagination.

Programme
Overview

Happy birthday, György Kurtág! For his second concert at the Conservatoire Darius Milhaud, Pierre-Laurent Aimard has put together a programme celebrating the Hungarian composer's 100th birthday. Kurtág's friendship with the French pianist, which began when they met in 1978, has recently resulted in the release of a recorded anthology from Játétok (Games) for piano. In the same light-hearted and miniaturist spirit, this concert has boldly opted for a spatialised, strolling format, with several pianos tuned in various ways strategically placed around the hall and played one after the other by Pierre-Laurent Aimard; so that a continuous series of short pieces – not only by Kurtág, but also by Schubert and Schumann – results a musical flow without intermissions or silences.
