Veszprém
Veszprém is one of the oldest urban areas in Hungary, and a city with county rights. It lies approximately 15 km (9 mi) north of the Lake Balaton. It is the administrative center of the county of the same name.
According to legend, Veszprém was founded on seven hills. The seven hills are Várhegy (Castle Hill), Benedek-hegy (St. Benedict Hill), Jeruzsálem-hegy (Jerusalem Hill), Temetőhegy (Cemetery Hill), Gulyadomb (Herd Hill), Kálvária-domb (Calvary Hill), and Cserhát.
The history of theater in Veszprém goes back two centuries. The first known local play dates from 1814 , which informs the city audience about the performance of a Kotzebue horror drama. In 1905 , the city's Színpártoló Egyesület was founded, which called for the construction of an independent theater building.
The Secession- style theater designed by István Medgyaszay - which in its time was the first theater building in the country to use reinforced concrete structures - is now called Veszprémi Petőfi Theater - 1908 . It was inaugurated on September 17 , and has been named after Sándor Petőfi since 1920 . The theater named after Zoltán Latinovits also belongs to and is a part of the theater organization.
In 2001, a second theater, primarily performing contemporary plays, was established in the city of the queens under the name Pannon Castle Theatre. In the beginning, they held smaller performances, the venue of which was the Antal Csermák Music School. As a result of the ever-growing interest, the theater now operates in the old Séd Film Theater, where hundreds of interested people can watch musical plays, serious and light musicals, and performances at the same time.
In 2008 , the theater also started its stage performances, which can be seen by theater lovers in the Dubniczay Palace . In addition to the performances, the theater participates in the further organization of cultural life, as the Pannon Castle Theater is the director of the Veszprém Spring Festival and the Dance Festival.
Of course, not only the older and younger age group can have fun at the theater performances. Very young children can visit the puppet shows of the Kabóca Puppet Theatre.
