Overview

Director Ding Yiteng stages The Invisible Guest – a stage thriller adapted from the Spanish hit film: a locked-room murder, an accused businessman and a lawyer who has never lost a case.

At a remote forest guesthouse, a businessman is accused of murdering his lover in a locked room. With his interrogation looming, a mysterious lawyer arrives with key evidence and demands the whole story – and every version he tells hides another lie.

Oriol Paulo’s film became the most successful Spanish film ever released in China. This staging blends the expressive conventions of traditional Chinese opera with experimental Western theatre, and People’s Daily called it “a surprise for the audience”. Zhang Weiyi, whose trio was named Comedy Team of the Year in the second season of the TV contest One Year Comedy Competition, plays Li Ya; Jin Jing, known for her CCTV Spring Festival Gala sketches, plays Wei Jia and Lawyer Gu.

Performed in Chinese.
