Overview

Strauss Capelle Vienna presents its 2027 New Year Concert – the orchestra that traces its roots to the band Johann Strauss I founded in 1827 brings genuine Viennese waltzes and polkas to Beijing.

After Eduard Strauss disbanded the original Strauss Orchestra in 1901, its tradition fell silent until it was revived in 1977. Since then the orchestra has given more than 3,000 concerts around the world, tours Europe, Japan, South America and China every year, and is instantly recognisable in its striking red-and-white uniforms.

Chief conductor Rainer Roos, who made his opera debut at the Stuttgart State Opera at just 20 and holds Germany’s Gottlob Frick Medal, has led the orchestra since 2011. Expect waltzes and polkas played with true Viennese elegance and sparkle – New Year in Vienna, brought to Beijing.
