Overview

World dance rock star Sergei Polunin returns to Italy with the Rasputin ballet - Dance drama - with a cast of exceptional dancers including world-famous stars, directed by Japanese dancer and choreographer Yuka Oishi.

Presented at the London Palladium on May 31, 2019, “Rapsutin” presents the contradictory aspects of the personality of the “Monk”, the adviser to Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, a legendary and controversial figure around whom much mystery still hangs today.

Yuka Oishi states: “In the end, he was a human being. I believe he possessed the famous healing powers, and I understand why the Empress Alexandra had turned to him because of her son's hemophilia; in the show he will show the development of the story. I have read all the books possible on the subject but in each one I have found a different story that contrasts the truth. I created the choreography based on my way of seeing this story, trying to understand the emotions of each character and portray him clearly. I wanted to show Rasputin's dark side but also his light.
He was very close to the people who determined the future of the Russian Empire and without his personal charisma he could not have done everything he did. He was a profligate and vulnerable man; driven by good and evil. Other dark forces were present in Russia at the time, which is why the stage is a chessboard, as many of the participants in this game were strong or weak depending on the moment. Sometimes Rasputin was a strong player, other times a pawn."
