Vienna Waltz Orchestra presents its 2027 New Year Concert – a sparkling Viennese New Year of Strauss waltzes, polkas and operetta duets, led from the violin by Lei Chen (Lui Chan).
Since 2002 the ensemble has presented its own series of New Year's Eve and New Year concerts, and it plays the Sunday matinees at the Brucknerhaus Linz. Its musicians come from the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, the Vienna Volksoper and the Vienna Symphony, joined by leading German and Austrian soloists.
At the helm is Lei Chen, longtime concertmaster of the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, who conducts, plays first violin and hosts the evening all at once – he is billed as "China's Johann Strauss". With him are mezzo-soprano Laura Olivia Spengel – Golden Medal winner at the Berliner Music Competition and a Bayreuth Festival scholarship holder, who made her debut at Vienna's Musikverein alongside Juan Diego Flórez – and baritone Gezim Berisha.
Expect the glittering repertoire of a Viennese New Year – waltzes, polkas and operetta duets, crowned by The Blue Danube.
